AUTHOR JK Rowling has apologised before for killing off some of her Harry Potter characters, including Fred Weasley and Remus Lupin.

However, few were expecting that she would use the May 2nd anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts to apologise for killing of Severus Snape.

“OK, here it is. Please don’t start flame wars over it, but this year I’d like to apologise for killing (whispers) … Snape. *runs for cover*,” she wrote on Twitter.

Snape is one of the divisive characters in the Harry Potter series.

While he did save Harry Potter’s life a couple of times, he also made life much tougher for the junior wizard — although that was mainly because he was in love with Harry Potter’s mother, Lily.
